PRESIDENT AND MRS. ABRAHAM LINCOLN
TO VISIT SOUTH PLAINFIELD

The sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, will spend the day
at a Union Army Infantry Encampment at Spring Lake on Saturday, May 16
from 10 am to 4 pm. Mrs. Lincoln will accompany her husband who is expected to attend a short
Memorial Service in Monument Park across the street for the men of the town who perished in the war.

Journey back to the Civil War era and tour the camp with the President.
Learn how infantry soldiers lived at the time, watch them drill, learn how they sheltered themselves,
and what equipment they were issued and how it was used.

Participants who will gather on the banks of the old mill pond include:
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the 14th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry,
the 27th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry and the 43rd New York Volunteer Infantry.

There is no admission charge.

This event is sponsored by the South Plainfield Historical Society in honor of
